Llewellyn

Lois (Nieman) Llewellyn and H.E., “Lew”, Llewellyn will celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on December 26th. They met at Pittsburg State Teachers’ College, after graduating were married at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Nortonville and started their life together in Riverton, Kansas. After a few years in Holton, Kansas
they moved to Lawrence in the summer of 1957 when Lew accepted a coaching and teaching position at Haskell. He served for 27 years at Haskell and continues to support the college through the Foundation. They raised five children – Beth, Sally, Herb, Amy and Matt – while continuing their careers as educators. Lois taught special needs children for 22 years in the Lawrence school system and then served as the first Executive Director of Trinity Community Services, now Trinity in Home Care. Together, the Llewellyns were awarded the Kiwanis Kansas Builder of Families Award in 1978. Since 1957 they have been active members of Immanuel Lutheran church, where they have faithfully centered their lives and focused their sense of mission
and service to others. In their retirement they have enjoyed international and domestic travel, extensive community service, leadership in various church related governing boards, and traveling to family homes outside of Lawrence.
They will enjoy their anniversary with their children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
