James “Jerry” and P. Joan McGriff, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children and grandchildren, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the couple’s home, 4205 Goldfield.
The couple were married June 14, 1959, Argos, Ind.
Joan and Jerry grew up in northern Indiana and were high school sweethearts. Jerry started as a programmer at United Telecommunications and retired after 33 years as a budget consultant with Sprint. Joan was a homemaker but held various jobs later including work as a dental assistant.
They have two sons, David and wife Nancy, Provo, Utah, and Kevin and wife Susan, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter Penne Baker and husband Jim, Lawrence; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
