Lawrence residents without electrical power should have it restored by Friday evening, Evergy officials said this morning.
Evergy, the state’s largest electric utility, said as of 10 a.m. Friday, about 4,500 customers remained without power throughout their Kansas service territory. The company listed about 800 customers in Lawrence were without power as of Friday morning.
“Power will be restored for most customers sooner today but we expect that some customers will be out until this evening,” Evergy said of Lawrence in a press release.
The utility also said that at the peak of the storm, that Lawrence had about 18,500 power outages, making it one of the harder hit areas of the Wednesday evening storm that produced winds of about 80 miles per hour. The company said Salina had about 19,000 outages, while Topeka had about 16,000 outages.
Evergy has brought in about 350 utility workers from neighboring utilities in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Illinois and Missouri to assist the approximately 1,100 Kansas utility employees and contractors who are working to repair storm damage.
