Douglas County Sheriff Jay Armbrister, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and has no Republican challenger, is set to serve another four years.

Armbrister had secured 8,299 votes with 96% of the votes tallied Tuesday night, while write-in candidates received 205 votes, according to the county’s election results.

Armbrister and his undersheriff, Stacy Simmons, took office after defeating Democratic primary opponents Dale Flory and Doug Woods in the 2020 election. No Republicans filed that year, despite the seat long being held by a Republican, Sheriff Ken McGovern, who was elected in 2004 and retired before the 2020 election.

Armbrister, 48, has been with the sheriff’s office for about 26 years.
