Sebelius would reinforce Obama’s ‘change’ message

Obama reportedly has narrowed his field for a running mate to five senators and two governors: Tim Kaine of Virginia and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, according to The Wall Street Journal. But, they add, there’s always the chance he could choose someone else.¢¢¢There’s always a chance … As an Obama campaign spokesman told The Independent of London, the selection of a vice-presidential running mate is “the one last remaining wild card in any campaign for the presidency.” The Independent’s own short list also includes some senators and the same two governors: Kaine and Sebelius.¢¢¢Is Obama hinting about who that “wild card” might be? MSNBC is reading between the lines of Obama’s Sunday interview on Meet the Press. Obama said he would give no hints about his choice of running mates but went on to say he would want someone with integrity and independence and who shares his vision of the need “to fundamentally change : how business is done in Washington.” Is that code for his preference of a running mate who isn’t already serving in the U.S. Senate? If so, the stock of governors, like Sebelius, may just have gone up.
