Target Deals: How to Maximize the Savings

When you shop at Target there are lots of ways to make the most of your trip and save some money. When you shop Target you can use coupons you’ve clipped from the newspaper or those that you’ve printed off of the Internet. You can print coupons directly from the Target website…some of these are Target coupons and some are manufacturer’s coupons…and now you can sign up for Target mobile coupons that are sent directly to your phone.

What does all of this mean? It means there are a lot of ways for you to save money.

Like other stores, you can “stack” coupons at Target. If you have a manufacturer’s coupon and a Target coupon for the same item..you can use them both, essentially doubling your savings. It gets even better… if you sign up for Target Mobile and one of those coupons is also for the item your are buying, you can add that coupon to your transaction as well. Throw in a good sale and you’ve got yourself one heck of a deal.

Target doesn’t use reward cards or customer loyalty programs like some other stores do. Instead they often put together deals that offer you a $5 – $10 gift card when you purchase a certain product or combination of products: Extra discount for you and a promise that you will return and spend more money for them. Did you know that if you are participating in one of these deals you can do a separate transaction at the beginning of your purchase then use the gift card on your remaining purchases? If you doing the Kashi deal this week you could purchase your 5 Kashi items and receive the gift card, then do another transaction for the rest of your items, making immediate use of your $5 discount.

There are some downfalls, for instance printing coupons from the Target website is a little tricky. There are a LOT of coupons available here but there is no way to tell if they are manufacturer or Target coupons until they have been printed. This is by far the largest complaint regarding Target’s new coupon system. Also, if you count your $5 gift card as a savings you must remember what you are paying out of pocket up front. I avoid this problem by always carrying a $5 gift card with me and “rolling” it on these deals. When I purchase more Kashi this week I will use this gift card on the total and save the new one for another deal.

Deals are still pretty sparse but a couple worth mentioning at Target this week are:

Kashi: Buy 5 Kashi products at $2.88 and receive a $5 gift card.

There have been lots of coupons out for Kashi products lately, you can even find them as peelies on the box quite often. I happen to have a handful of $1.75/1 coupons that I received in the mail as part of a promotion. As I mentioned above, I will also roll my $5 gift card on this deal so it looks like this:

5 @ $2.88 = 14.40
5 Coupons – $1.75/1 = 8.75
1 – $5 Gift Card
Total = 5 Kashi products for $0.65

You may not have access to the same coupons that I do, but you see the point that I am making: the longer you collect coupons and send out for samples, you will begin to amass coupons like this.

Red Grapes are $0.99/lb

Huggies Diapers are $19.99 for the big box. Buy 2 and receive a $5 gift card. There is also a $3/1 printable right now that you could use:

2 @ $19.99
2 Coupons $3/1
$5 Gift Card
2 big packs @ $14.49/each

Method Laundry Detergent
50 Loads $12.99
25 Loads $6.99
$1/1 Printable Coupon

Lots of Circo and Cherokee kids clothing is on sale…even when its not these are cute and durable clothes for a fairly inexpensive price. You can print a $5/$30 purchase of Circo brand clothing on Target.com. You can print two of these and use them both in the same transaction if you total is $60 or higher.

Hopefully that helps you put together some of your own deal ideas for shopping at Target, helping to lower that bill just a little.
