Find a game plan for Black Friday

Thanksgiving is a time we share with friends and family. We ponder all we are thankful for and share a wonderful meal with the special people in our lives.

But come Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, die-hard shoppers turn into a frenzy of deal seekers. I’ve put together some tips to help you make it through this craziest of shopping days.

Have a plan. Make a list of the stores you are headed to and the items you are purchasing at each location. Make a budget and stick to it. This is not a good day to be spontaneous.

Stay focused. Don’t get sidetracked by items that are not on your list. This will cost you valuable time if you’re on the hunt for doorbusters.

Do your price researching before the big shopping day, because as we know, not all sales are good deals. Make sure you search the Internet for any printable coupons that apply to your list.

Keep the sale ads with you. This is good to have if any retailers are price matching.

Pack water and snacks to keep your energy going.

And, most important, have fun!

Jenn and I have decided to tackle Black Friday in two ways to get the best coverage. She will be staying home (all snuggly in her favorite chair) checking out online sales and deals. I will venture out very early Friday morning to check out the shopping scene at several Lawrence retailers. I have enlisted the help of my 13 year old son, Thomas, and together we will be scoping out the sales. We are hoping to chat it up with some of you deal-seekers to see what is in your shopping carts. So be on the look out for us. You can see our results on Twitter, and if you would like to participate in the conversation, the hash tag is #ksblackfriday.

My gameplan for Black Friday: sleep as late as possible, eat a huge breakfast, sleep some more, catch a football game on the tube with my friend, drink some beer, enjoy some leftovers, play some cards, back to bed. Cheers!

get ready for some *real* black friday tips, k thx ;)

be sure to wear some trail shoes or light boots (not too heavy though). those sprints change to mountain climbin' faster than you can say 'half-price twilight posters.' all is takes is for ol' aunt Beverly's knees to give way near the in-and-out doors before you have an ob-struction between you and that $400 42" Emerson plasma you been eyein'. don't go fallin' in no heap! climb those bodies! be careful not to step on a junior's fingers or toes on your way over the pile. instead, step firmly in the *middle* of torsos (or the tops of heads) so as to distribute your weight *evenly*. this'll most likely prevent any injuries.

work in teams, make a diversion. when those doors open at 5am, have Ricky drive in front of teh in-an-out doors in his red '88 IROC-Z (with the stripes). that whole line of folks oughta be mixed up like a box of turkey day mashed potatoes. that's when you jump out from behind some trash cans and slip inside. run to those $50 sylvania dvd players, grab two, and quickly go hide out in one of them toiletry aisles. that's where you'll rendezvous with Ricky after he's finished parked the IRoC-Z. one-per-customer?! LOL. not for you and Ricky. ROFL.

My Black Friday experience was a blast. Despite getting up at 3:00 a.m., the morning went by quickly and without drama.

After observing traffic flow and what was in people’s carts, I would say flat screen TV’s were the hot item. Target sold out of the 32” Westinghouse LCD TV in 10 minutes. It was crazy.

Best Buy was reporting the same thing – TV’s and laptops were the big items out the doors.
