My Favorite Season…and my Favorite Weekly Deals
While you wouldn't know it by the wonderful weather this weekend...Fall is in full swing and I am ready to settle in and make the most of it. I love to bake...I love to plan and prepare for Holiday festivities...to decorate the house. I've been blessed this year to have so many new and wonderful friends in my life...I have all the best intentions of baking up a storm and showering them with home baked love (note: I said "Best Intentions"). I'm planning my gift lists for friends and family and looking through the deals this week I've got a little head start, there are some deals around town that will help to scratch that prepare for the Holidays itch I've been having...here is a small sample:
FREE Photo Merchandise from Kodak Gallery: Visit the post I have on SuperJennto learn more...but if you act fast you can get a $15 gift card for free merchandise (photos, photo books, mugs calendars, cards...) from Kodak Gallery. What a great way to round up a couple of gifts or your Holiday cards for FREE.
Christmas Light Trade In: At Home Depot this week you can trade in your used or broken incandescent holiday lights and receive $3 off your purchase of any LED Christmas Lights. LED light strings use 80% less energy than incandescent light strings. What a great way to save money...both in buying the decorations AND in energy costs down the road.
You can purchase a string of the LED lights for $5.97 ...with your discount that is $2.97. There is a limit of 5 strings per customer.
If you are crafty you can find a wide variety of fabrics, notions and patterns all on deep discount at Hancock Fabrics this week. There is also a coupon for an additional 10% off of your entire purchase during an Early Bird Sale on Veteran's Day.
You can find a Roasting Pan at World Market on sale for $9.99 this week. It will hold up to a 25lb. turkey ... quite a deal if it is a nice heavy pan.
Hastingshas a special coupon in their flyer this week that is good Friday and Saturday only...but will land you any CD in the store priced $18.99 or less for $9.99.
Aldi (yeah, that's right...Aldi) has butter for $1.38. If you didn't stock up during one of the two recent sales at HyVee you can get yourself some cheap butter and freeze it to use when you are ready to bake. They also have apples for $0.25/ea. I haven't been in yet but I'm curious what kind of apples are included...if you know please post and share! I'm really wanting to make an Apple Crisp for my family and would be thrilled if Granny Smith were part of the deal.
Dillon's is having the last few days of their most recent $5 Mega Event.... if you buy any 10 participating items you will get $5 (or $0.50 per item) off of your total bill. Assuming you buy at least 10 items and receive the discount here are some great finds to help you stock up for Holiday baking:
Nestle Toll House Morsels: $1.99 Use the $0.50/1 coupon from the Nov. 1 Red Plum you will be getting these for $0.99/ea. Buy 'em up and stick 'em in the freezer...use them later in chocolate chip cookies...fudge...pancakes...muffins...need I say more?
Carnation Evaporated Milk: $0.69/ea Use a $0.50/2 from a recent insert or print one HERE and you will be paying $0.19/ea.
I Can't Believe It's Not Butter: $1.17/ea Buy 2 and use the $1/2 from the 9/13 Red Plum and get them for $0.67/ea.
Betty Crocker Potatoes: $0.99/ea Use a $0.40/1 printable coupon and get these for $0.20 a box. Looking for an inexpensive way to make a donation to the food pantries? This might be a good option!
Angel Soft Bathroom Tissue: $1.30 (normal price) Use a $0.50/1 from the 9/13 Red Plum and pay $0.30 for a package of toilet paper. The weekly email from Plymouth Church this week said that one of the items they are in need of right now when collecting for the food banks is toilet paper. This is another great way to use your coupons for good.
With everyone around me coughing and hacking up a storm I'm rather enthralled with the $0.50/ea bags of Ricolla and Hallscough drops. Use the B1G1 coupon for Ricolla in the 10/11 Smart Source and you will be getting the bags for $0.25/ea. The 11/8 Smart Source has a $0.50/1 Halls coupon that will make them not only free...but a money maker.
Scenario:
Buy 2 Ricolla and 1 Halls.
Use B1G1 Ricolla and $0.50/1 Halls. You will get all three bags for free. (The overage on the Halls will cover the price of the first bag of Ricolla)
I discovered that Hy Vee is having a sale through the month of November on Organic Valley Milk. Half Gallons are 2/$6 and there is a $2/2 coupon in their monthly flier. You can find the flier right at the front of the Health Market. $2 for a half gallon of organic milk is a really good price.
Finally...I've been shopping around for a laptop ... Christmas present for my grandparents who can no longer climb the stairs daily to use their computer...this week Office Depot is running a special on a Toshiba ...15.6" screen with Windows 7 and 2GB memory for $350.

I did the $5 Mega Event and it was GREAT! They actually have a list of all participating items at the door so you can scan the list and see what items you want. It was easy for me to find 10 things we buy regularly.
Also got the 1 gal or organic milk for $4. I announced it proudly to the whole family as soon as I got home. That coupon is good until December, so I'm going to get more and use them even after the sale is over.

This may not apply to every family, and I don't know how good Office Depot is about their extended warranty, but my family seems to be rough on laptops. I always get the extended warranty on laptops at BB and have never regretted it. I'm surprised they still sell them to me because they always lose on the deal, in fact they know me by sight. If nothing else you get a free laptop battery and free checkups out of the deal. Bought an extended warranty for a laptop at Sears for $200, won't ever do that again, total rip-off.

We also get BB extended warranties on Ipods and ATT IPhone, once again I always come out on top on those. No I don't work for them, just have had good experiences when it came to repair problems.

So post some deals from those stores. That is the point of these blogs. Just telling us that they exist doesn't do a whole lot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hy-Vee has a 3 day sale flier in today's paper that looks to be promising.
Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers are $.78/ea so if you have any of the coupons left ($.40/1 IIRC) would make them $.38/ea.
There was a blinkie (those little coupon attachments to shelves that blink a red light) for Ro-Tel a couple of weeks ago. It is for $.25/1 so that would make Ro-Tel $.64/ea.
Oh, the organic valley heavy whipping cream is on sale for 2/$3 so if you need that, combine it with the $2/2 coupon and it will come out to $.50/ea.
Dillon's has Imagine Organic soups on sale for 2/$6. A bit more than I like to pay for soup but I tried the southwest corn soup and it was pretty tasty. They are low in sodium so if you are on a sodium restricted diet, it could be a tasty treat for you.
In fact, it looks like most of Dillons organics section is on sale, you have particular brands you like, it is worth it to google them to see their website offers coupons to make the sale even cheaper for you.
Pillsbury's Simply brand cookies are also on sale. They have no HFCS in it. They are part of the buy 10 items, get $5 off your order. If you pair the $.55/1 coupon from 10/4 General Mills insert (which will double to $1) or the $/1 coupon from the 9/13 Smart Source insert, you will end up paying $1/ea.
DanActive drinks are also part of the 10 item deal so pair that with the $1 coupon in the 10/4 & also in the 11/1 Smart Source insert and you will end up paying $.49/ea. These are great if you have digestive issues.
I was so excited about the nestle choc. chips for $1.99 and using my coupons to stack but they were actually $2.69 or $2.19 after the mega $5 deal. What Dillons did you go to? I went to the one on Lawrence & 6th.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did you get the size listed in the ad? It says select varieties 10oz-12oz.
I've accidentally picked up the wrong size for an item before so it messed the deal up. Dillons has been very good about letting you exchange it for the correct size & refunding the difference.
It should say on your receipt next to the Nestle chips $2.49. The $5 mega deal thing will be listed down with the coupons. You should see a $.50/1 coupon doubled to $1. How it gets broken down is that you figure the $.50 from the mega deal ($5 divided by 10) on the Nestle chips & then subtract the doubled coupon off that amount to = the $.99.

Dillons sure has plenty of people drinking their Kool Aid.
Their Shopper Card is a scam— get you in the door promising bargains, then you end up spending more on other things.
Plus, their lines are always long and don't ever have enough cashiers. I avoid that place like the plague, despite double coupons and the like.

On the Hy-Vee 3 day sale for the Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers, the coupon is $.50/1 so it would make them $.28/ea. You can get those coupons off the Betty Crocker website, the Smart Source website & Coupons.com

Katara - Thanks for the info on the choc. chips from Nestle. I only saw the tag on the shelf and didn't see an ad coming in the door. It's possible I overlooked the smaller size that is only $1.99 altogether.
I think I might wait to stock up. My mom is in AZ and goes to Safeway. Two years ago after Christmas the store was left with two displays of nestle choc. chips and they clearanced them out and each one had a coupon on them. She ended up getting them for $0.40 a bag and she bought over 100 bags and divvied them up. I thought I was down to 1 or 2 bags but it looks like I have over a dozen still!
I'll keep looking out for deals like that.
Also, anyone interested in scrounging, Target's Halloween is now 90% off merchandise and 75% off candy. That means you can get a costume for next year (if they have your size, that is) for less than $1. Even if you have kids and you let them use it for dress-up, that's a great deal. They also have caramel apple kits that fall under the 90% off bracket, which equals $0.49 for a kit to make 4 caramel apples for the holidays. Gifts for neighbors, anyone?

Oh, and when I meant 'gift for neighbors', I meant the caramel apples themselves, not the kits! Gourmet caramel apples can cost around $5 each, so add in a few things of your own (depending how crafty and handy you are in the kitchen, of course), like a chocolate coating, drizzles of white chocolate or a mint chocolate and toss it in some cute packaging, and you have a fantastic and inexpensive gift.

Katara - Nice results! I shopped today with all three kids… and I should publicly issue an apology to anyone who had to experience us while we were there! LOL
I still managed to do well though…. 75% savings… I spent $98 and saved $248. I did one trip earlier this week for my weekly menus and spent $17 …this was a stocking up kind of trip… I haven't shopped though since my last ginormous shopping adventure…and I won't shop but for a few dollars next week… so I am still sticking to my $50/wk average.
