KU Police are investigating after a 20-year-old man was stabbed by an acquaintance around 2:30 this morning.

Police were called to Oliver Hall, 1815 Naismith Drive, by a Resident Assistant who reported a man with a stab wound. Officers located the male victim in the lobby of the building and learned that the male suspect had fled from the building on foot.

Medics reported the victim's injuries to be serious, with a single stab wound to the abdomen just above the "belt line." The wound was reportedly inflicted with a butter knife.

Officers currently only have a very vague suspect description but, it sounds like the two men know each other and the victim may not be a KU student.

Medics have transported the victim to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Authorities from at least five law enforcement agencies were involved in a lengthy pursuit early this morning.

Around 2:10 a.m., police from Lawrence and Topeka attempted to stop a white 2001 GMC Jimmy that was northbound on N. 2nd Street near Lincoln Street. The driver chose to flee and the chase was on.

Douglas County Deputies joined the pursuit as the vehicle sped passed TeePee Junction, intersection of U.S. Highways 24-59 and 24-40. The chase continued northbound on U.S. Highway 24-40 with speeds reaching 70 miles per hour.

As the pursuit passed Midland Junction and entered Jefferson County, at least one of their deputies joined the pursuit. Speeds ranged from 45-70 miles per hour while continuing westbound on U.S. Highway 24.

A Jefferson County Deputy was able to get in front of the pursuit and laid spike strips near Decatur Road, just east of Grantville. The vehicle hit the spike strips, shredding at least one tire.

Shawnee County Deputies and more Topeka Police officers joined the pursuit as they entered Shawnee County and eastern Topeka. A Deputy spiked the vehicle a second time near Kansas Highway 4. The second set of spike strips damaged the remaining tires on the vehicle.

After striking a bridge guardrail and making a U-turn into the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 24, the vehicle became stuck in the grassy median. The driver and a passenger were taken into custody just east of Kaw Valley Road in eastern Topeka at 2:46 a.m..

No injuries were reported in the chase that spanned about 27 miles, across parts of three counties and lasted 35 minutes.

The driver is reportedly the suspect that Topeka Police were in Lawrence looking for this morning. As of this report there is no official confirmation as to what that man was wanted for.

Lawrence Police continue to investigate this morning after two people reportedly walked into Lawrence Memorial Hospital after being stabbed.

Hospital staff called Police shortly after 3 a.m., to report the incident to Police. Officers were dispatched at 3:15 a.m..

It was not clear where the stabbing occurred or the conditions of the injured.

The victims were said to be non English speaking.

As of this report no other details are available.

The first arrest came just after midnight at a hotel in the 700 block of Iowa Street for criminal trespassing. Apparently the man had been asked to leave several times after trying to start a disturbance, he refused and Police were called at 11:58 p.m.. He was eventually taken into custody about 20 minutes after midnight.

Around 12:15 a.m., Police responded on two non-injury accidents about the same time. The first was in the 900 block of Mississippi Street and the second was in the 1700 block of Kentucky Street.

Next was a disturbance in the 700 block of Massachusetts Street at 12:24 a.m.. An officer patrolling the area reported subjects arguing and stopped to check on them. One of the men was eventually arrested and now faces charges of interference with the duties of an officer and disorderly conduct.

Lawrence Police were called to investigate a non-injury hit and run accident in the 600 block of Mississippi Street at 12:32 a.m.. Officers located the suspect driver about 15 minutes later in the 1200 block of W. 6th Street, about four blocks from the scene of the accident. The driver now faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to a vehicle/property, no insurance, and OUI.

Douglas County Deputies were called to investigate a non-injury hit and run accident that occurred just north of Lawrence shortly after 12:30 a.m.. Deputies caught up with the suspect driver in the 1000 block of N. 3rd Street. She was arrested and faces a total of eight charges. Those charges are; DWI, open container, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of a non-injury accident, failure to report an accident, no proof of liability insurance, and no driver's license.

Lawrence officers were called to investigate a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of Louisiana Street at 12:50 a.m.. After investigation, a female was arrested. She now faces charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Around 1:30 a.m., Lawrence officers and Douglas County deputies were informed of a vehicle that was seen traveling northbound on the southbound bridge over the Kansas river. The person who called police reported that after crossing the river, the vehicle returned to the correct side of the road and then entered the turnpike, where the caller lost sight of the vehicle. Kansas Turnpike Authority Troopers were informed of the vehicle description and earlier offense. It did not sound like Troopers were able to locate that vehicle.

Just before 1:40 a.m., police were called to investigate a disturbance near 11th and Massachusetts Streets. The caller reported that he had been thrown on the ground and then kicked. Medics treated the victim for some minor injuries at the scene. He was not transported by medics. It was unclear if the man knew his attacker or not. No arrests were reported.

Police were called to an address in the 2100 block of Bob Billings Parkway for a domestic disturbance at 1:54 a.m.. One man was arrested on charges of criminal restraint and criminal trespassing. No injuries were reported.

At 2:00 a.m., officers were called to investigate a non-injury accident in the 2200 block of Louisiana Street.

Police investigated a disturbance at 8th and Massachusetts Streets at 2:03 a.m., And a disturbance in the 500 block of Wisconsin at 2:23 a.m. Medics were called to both of those scenes but, did not transport anyone from either the scene.

One of this morning's reported larger disturbances was reported near Fuzzy's Taco Shop at 1115 Massachusetts Street around 2:35 a.m.. The caller reported there were five subjects fighting and someone possibly injured. LPD arrived to find that the disturbance had broken up. Medics were also called to this scene but, were turned away by police who had learned that no one was reporting being injured.

At 2:41 a.m., officers wrapping up the investigation of the earlier non-injury accident in the 2200 block of Louisiana Street reported a new accident at 23rd and Louisiana Streets. Officers moved the vehicles into the Walgreen's parking lot and requested Medics respond to the scene. Again, medics did not transport anyone from the scene.

Police were called to investigate a disturbance in the 2400 block of Brookside Drive. Officers learned that the suspect had left the address and possibly had returned to his residence near W. 24th Street and Ousdahl Road. Officers checked the area of the suspects residence but did not locate him. He was found a short time later in the 2200 block of Iowa Street. He now faces a charge of aggravated battery.

No serious injuries were reported with any of this morning's activity.

Most of this morning's disturbances were on the smaller side, two or three people fighting/arguing. The one exception to this came at an address that Lawrence Police are beginning to become familiar with lately. They were called around 1:20 a.m. to an apartment in the 3300 block of W 8th Street, following reports of an argument that was possibly escalating into a fight. A total of six units were eventually attached to the call. Officers spoke to the involved parties and after checking everyone involved for warrants, returned to service from the call without making any arrests. No injuries were reported. This same address and apartment number have been the location for at least two previous calls, in recent memory during my listening hours.

Aside from the three DWI/OUI related arrests, there were two other arrests. The first involved a domestic disturbance with one of the involved now facing charges of domestic battery and violation of a protective order. The second arrest involved a theft in the 1300 block of Tennessee Street. That suspect now faces charges of theft and interference with the duties of an officer.

None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

As they are on most weekends, law enforcement officers in Douglas County were kept plenty busy this Saturday morning.

Here are some of this morning's numbers;

• 7 Total arrests
• 6 Disturbances
• 2 Attempts to flee from officers
• 2 OUI/DWI related arrests
• 2 Reports of gunshots (same area/time)
• 1 Non-injury accident

The first of which was reported just before 12:30 a.m. at Tonic Lounge, 728 Massachusetts Street. A caller reported a man had "pulled a knife on staff." Officers caught up with a man matching the description a short distance away, behind 722 Massachusetts Street. No injuries or arrests were reported related to this incident.

Just after 1 a.m., Police were involved in a foot pursuit with a man in the 800 block of Vermont Street. Officers caught up with him in the 1000 block of Vermont Street. At the time, it was unclear why the man was running but, after he was booked it became clear. This morning the 19-year-old man faces charges including interference with the duties of an officer, public urination, possession of alcohol by a minor, and consumption/possession of liquor in public.

Next, officers were off to the area of W 25th Street and Redbud Lane following two reports of gunshots heard in the area. Callers reported between two and five gunshots heard in the area around 1:45 a.m.. Five officers checked the area but, did not report locating anything in the area.

Lawrence Police were called to a hit and run non-injury accident near 10th & Alabama at 2:21 a.m.. KU Police located the suspect vehicle abandoned on Alabama Street just north of Fambrough Drive. KU Police reported that LPD had located the driver a short time later. As of this report, no arrests have been recorded related to the activity.

Just before 2:45 a.m., KU Police were called to Learned Hall, 1530 W. 15th Street, on a report of an alarm sounding. The officer located an "emergency shower" which had been activated. After shutting off the water and silencing the alarm, the officer reported a quarter inch of water on the floor. It was unclear if the water had done any damage to any rooms.

At 2:59 a.m., Lawrence Police and Firefighters were called to the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity house on a reported structure fire. A caller had reported that there was smoke in both staircases. Officers arrived to find that there was no smoke, only an "accidental discharge" of a fire extinguisher. Firefighters arrived and quickly confirmed that there was no smoke or fire.

At 4:38 a.m., six Lawrence Police units were assigned to a domestic disturbance call in the 1100 block of Stone Meadows Drive after one of the involved parties decided that he could outrun officers. Needless to say, he was proved wrong and was taken into custody a short distance away. He now faces a total of six charges, three related to outstanding warrants. The new charges are all related to the domestic and his decision to run from officers. Those charges include domestic battery, criminal restraint and obstruction of the legal process.

This morning's numbers are just a little bit different from yesterday morning. Lawrence police conducted 10 vehicle stops between midnight and 5 a.m.. Only two DWI related arrests this morning, one from KUPD and one from LPD, and both of those also include charges for the driver refusing to be tested.

Here is a look at some of the numbers from Lawrence Police this morning;

At 12:20 this morning, Eudora Police and a Douglas County deputy were called to check for an erratic driver eastbound on K-10 approaching Eudora. A 911 caller was following the vehicle and reported the driver was all over the roadway and possibly left the roadway entirely at one point. The caller followed the vehicle to the Church Street exit and then north. Eudora Police caught up with the driver at the Kwik Shop. No arrests were recorded related to the incident.

Just after 12:40 a.m., Lawrence police were called to an address in the 600 block of Michigan Street on a domestic disturbance. A man was eventually arrested and faces charges of criminal damage to property and escape from custody. While he was being transported to the County Jail apparently he was trying to open the door of the patrol car that was transporting him. It was not clear if he slipped his cuffs completely, was able to get his hand in front of him or what exactly prompted the escape charge. The officer driving the car did call for assistance at K-10 and Franklin, about a block from the jail for help detaining the subject again.

At 1:15 a.m., Police were called to an address in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road for a possible burglary in progress. The resident reported an unknown male in his 20's opened the front screen door of the home and then tried to open the main door. After finding the front door was locked, the man then made his way to the resident's vehicle parked nearby and tried to open the doors. Police arrived and the man was arrested for criminal trespassing and an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in municipal court.

Officers were called to the intersection of 9th and Massachusetts Street at 2:45 a.m. following reports of a fight in progress, and one subject with a bloody nose. Medics were also dispatched to stage in the area. After breaking up the fight, medics treated one person for what were described as minor injuries.

A Mil-Spec security officer called Lawrence Police at 2:50 a.m., to the 1000 block of W 23rd Street after witnessing a non-injury accident. Apparently Mil-Spec told dispatchers that they were detaining the driver after she attempted to flee from the scene of a collision with a parked vehicle. LPD arrived and eventually arrested the driver. She now faces charges her second DWI, in addition to refusing a test and no proof of liability insurance.

At 4:55 a.m., Lawrence Police were called to the Dillon's at 1015 W. 23rd Street following the strong-arm theft of nine cartons of cigarettes. The suspect, described as a heavy set black female, reportedly shoved an employee to get to the cigarettes and then fled in a red Buick passenger car. According to scanner traffic, it appeared that officers have had similar incidents with a suspect vehicle matching this description. It was unclear if the actual suspect description matched or just the vehicle.

Lawrence police conducted more than 10 vehicle stops between midnight and 5 a.m.. Those stops resulted in four arrests, three for OUI related offenses and one for driving without a valid driver's license.

Douglas County deputies recorded one DWI related arrest, the same arrested person also faces a charge for not having proof of liability insurance.

Other police activity in Lawrence included;

Nearly all of the disturbance calls were between midnight and 2:30 a.m., only two disturbances were reported after that. Five of the disturbance calls occurred in downtown along Massachusetts Street. Two of the larger disturbances on Mass Street occurred about 10 minutes apart and less than half a block from each other. Both of the larger fights occurred in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street. The first was outside of Buffalo Wild Wings and the second in front of the Granada, both were said to have involved 6-10 people. There was a report of one person involved possibly having suffered a broken nose however, it did not appear that officers made contact with anyone having such an injury. Medics were not requested to respond on any of the disturbances and no serious injuries were reported.

At 2:11 a.m., officers wrapping up their response on one disturbance were informed of a hit and run accident which had occurred about a block away in the 900 block of Massachusetts Street. A Chevrolet SUV was reported to have fled from the scene, there was no description of the driver. As of this report it does not appear that officers have made contact with that driver.

Just after the information was given on the hit and run, officers were being informed of a strong-arm robbery which had occurred in the 800 block of Massachusetts Street. The victim reported being approached and robbed by two men. The men were only described as a white male and a black male who were last seen running from the area, possibly to the west. The victim did not report any injuries. As of this report, no arrests have been recorded.

KU Police were called to the 600 block of Sunnyside Avenue around 2:20 a.m. after a caller reported a vehicle found crashed in the roadway. Officers arrived to report a red Honda CRV was laying on its side with no signs of a driver. Lawrence Police also responded to the scene. The driver was located and arrested about 30 minutes later. He faces charges for failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident with damage to vehicle/property and no insurance.

Two of the trespassing calls this morning involved unknown subjects trying to enter Greek houses.

The first was reported about 2:30 a.m. and involved a man in a red coat who was knocking and possibly trying to open the front door of the Kappa Kappa Gamma house at 1 Gower Place. After no one answered the door, the man made his way to the rear of the house, before disappearing from sight towards the Chancellor's residence just to the west. KU Police checked the area of the Chancellor's residence and did not report locating anyone in the area.

The second trespassing complaint was at the Alpha Chi Omega house at 1500 Sigma Nu Place around 4:15 a.m.. This time the trespasser was said to be an unknown woman in a black skirt. Again the unknown person tried to open the front door before she made her way to the back of the building and tried a different door. Officers checked the area and did not report locating anyone matching the description in the area.

Lawrence police were in the area of the 2100 block of Ohio at 3:21 a.m., after a cab driver reported being battered by a fare. The suspect, only described as a male fled on foot in an unknown direction. The driver's injuries were did not sound serious, as medics were not requested.

At 3:28 a.m., a Mil-Spec security officer reported a possible structure fire at 2411 Louisiana Street, building E. The initial report was only of the odor of smoke in the building. After further investigation the security officer was informed that the resident of on apartment had burnt food that she was cooking. Still a full alarm response from Lawrence Fire was dispatched to check and confirm that the incident was only a failed attempt at cooking. Crews arrived on scene at 3:31 to report nothing showing from the three story apartment building. Two minutes later all units were allowed to return to service after one crew had confirmed the burnt food was the source of the smoke odor.

Douglas County deputies rolled up on a fight outside of the Outhouse in the 1800 block of N. 1500 Road, at 3:31 a.m.. Deputies reported several subjects fighting in front of the building. The scuffle was quickly broken up and no injuries or arrests were reported.

Updated Lawrence Journal-World report

6 a.m. Update: KDOT reports that one lane in eastbound and one lane westbound are now open again. Traffic continues to move slowly through the scene.

Original Report: If you are planning on commuting to work by way of the Kansas Turnpike early this morning, you are going to have to reconsider your route. As of 5 a.m., all eastbound and westbound traffic is being forced to exit the turnpike due to as serious injury accident about a mile east of the East Lawrence Interchange.

Douglas County firefighters from the Lawrence Department, Wakarusa Township fire responded, along with Reno Township Fire of Leavenworth County to the scene of an accident involving a tractor trailer near mile marker 205. The accident was dispatched around 4:20 this morning after dispatchers received numerous calls regarding a tractor trailer crash and fire in the median.

Douglas County Deputies were first to arrive on the scene and were able to report that the driver was out of the truck and reporting that the tank trailer is empty. Lawrence firefighters arrived on the scene to report that the tractor trailer had rolled to its side and sustained "major damage."

The driver of the truck has been transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Incident command reports there is "significant debris" across the highway and a "diesel fuel leak." A Kansas Turnpike Authority representative has been requested to respond to the scene. It is unclear how long the roadway will remain blocked.

Activity seems to have picked up a little bit this week, this morning was no different.

Police were dispatched to the area of W. 9th & Cardinal Drive at 12:26, following a report of arguing and screaming heard coming from one of the buildings. The caller believed the building would be in the 3300 block of W. 8th Street. Eventually, seven LPD units were assigned to the call and one person was arrested. Apparently one of the people involved in the disturbance had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and didn't want to be arrested. He apparently decided to stay inside the address and not let officers inside to investigate. Officers were talking back and forth about having a mug shot of the man, it sounded as though the man may have closed the door after seeing officers approaching. He was finally taken into custody about 1 a.m..

Based on scanner traffic, there was no immediate indication of a fight or struggle with officers but, this morning's county booking logs show the man now faces charges for interference with the duties of an officer and battery on a law enforcement officer in addition to the warrant. The warrant shows to be from 2011 in Shawnee County, for Possession of a Controlled Substance. No injuries were reported.

Eudora Police were called to the intersection of 10th & Ash shortly before 3 a.m., after a nearby resident reported a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot. The resident seemed to believe that the two occupants of the green SUV were going to burglarize a nearby business. Several deputies responded to the area and remained there for at least 25 minutes. It was unclear if there was an actual crime or nothing more than a suspicious vehicle. As of this report, no arrests have been recorded related to the activity.

None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

Operation 100 News report.

Lawrence Police continue to investigate after two Topeka men were shot early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to Club Magic, located at 804 W. 24th Street, at 3:41 a.m. after receiving 911 calls reporting 10 people fighting inside the business. One of the people involved in the fight was reportedly armed with a gun. Police responded and learned that a security guard had taken the firearm from the man. The man then left the business before police could arrive.

At 3:51 a.m., Lawrence Police were dispatched to the area 22nd and Alabama Streets following several reports of gunshots heard in the area. This intersection is about three blocks north of Club Magic. At least one caller reported hearing four or five gunshots and a female screaming.

As officers responded to check on the reports of gunshots, one officer's patrol vehicle was struck by a vehicle being driven by a shooting victim in the parking lot of the McDonald's, 901 W. 23rd Street, just across the parking lot from Club Magic. The officer requested medics respond and that the driver had been shot multiple times.

Other officers continued their response to the area where gunfire had been reported. A second shooting victim was found in the 800 block of Greever Terrace, which is about four blocks north of Club Magic. Both men were reportedly shot on Greever Terrace. Following the shooting, one of the victims drove a vehicle back towards Club Magic to look for help, his vehicle collided with a Lawrence Police Department patrol vehicle in the McDonald's parking lot.

Lawrence Medics reported the victim found at McDonald's to be a 27-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the arm, shoulder and "base of the neck". He was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

The shooting victim who was found on Greever Terrace was determined to be 33-year-old male with two gunshot wounds. His wounds were said to include on in the foot and a "through and through" to the lower abdomen. He was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas with life threatening injuries.

Fire Medical crews requested two helicopters to respond and transport the victims. Due to weather conditions, no medevac helicopters were able to respond. Both victims were transported by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical ambulance units.

Lawrence Police say they are seeking several persons of interest in connection with the shooting.

Our reporting partners at the Lawrence Journal-World report that a 22-year-old Topeka man was arrested for displaying a firearm in the bar during the initial disturbance and interfering with the duties of police.

The Journal-World also reports that both victims are Topeka residents. The condition of the 27-year-old shooting victim was said to be in stable condition and improving as of Sunday afternoon. The 33-year-old victim was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, who told the Journal-World that they do not provide information on victims of violent crimes.

Club magic has been the scene of at least two other disturbances involving guns just this year, according to the Journal-World.

The club has previously been called Taste Lounge, Bar and Grill. A 30-year-old, Lawrence man who was working as a bouncer at the club was shot in the parking lot in March 2012.
