Kansas City man arrested following early morning shooting near Mass Street

A Kansas City, Kansas man has been arrested following an early morning shooting in Lawrence.

Police were called to investigate a disturbance outside of Brother's Bar & Grill, 1105 Massachusetts Street, around 1:45 a.m..

At least one 9-1-1 caller reported subjects arguing and an off-duty officer reported gunfire in the same area.

Officers located a man with a single gunshot wound to the leg in the parking lot of the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th Street, just behind Brother's Bar & Grill.

Police say the victim's injuries are non-life-threatening.

Police have detained three possible suspects in a vehicle that was followed from the scene by the off-duty officer. That vehicle was stopped by police in the area of E. 13th & Haskell Avenue. Initial reports indicate that a firearm was recovered inside that vehicle.

There were numerous witnesses to the disturbance and police are currently interviewing anyone that may have seen anything.

At least one vehicle was also damaged by gunfire.

At 5:55 a.m., Lawrence Police booked a 21-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man into the Douglas County Jail. He faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of misdemeanor criminal damage to property. He is currently being held without bond.

Douglas Count District Court Judge Paula B. Martin on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old Kansas University student to two years probation, including two months shock time with the department of corrections.

Alexander L. Pendleton, of Texas, was found guilty of aggravated battery by a jury in November. Pendleton was arrested on May 17 after Lawrence police responded to a disturbance at Brothers Bar and Grill, 1105 Massachusetts St. After a nearly three-day trial, a jury found Pendleton guilty of aggravated battery for his role in sending a 24-year-old Dallas man to an area trauma center. Robert Trigg Edwards received significant facial injuries after being knocked to the ground and beaten in the face.

Lol. I dont understand how an electronics store would be successful at that location, but if you're gonna do it, do it how lawrence would appreciate being done -clearly not through the comptons.

But really. Brothers isnt desirable - though it used to be. Its odd that brothers, besides Shots, has such a problem especially since its a chain.

Brothers Bar and Grill is mostly not open BUT when it is rowdy activity does take place. What's up with is? Gun activity not desirable.

Doug Compton may want to buy that place to quiet things down a bit for his new downtown residential unit. May I suggest Mr.Compton bring in a business called Sony Style electronics which sells phones,computers,flat screen TV's, surround sound and such?
