May 4th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Shortly before 3 a.m., University of Kansas Police were called to the 400 block of W 11th Street to contact two females in reference to an alleged assault that occurred around 2:40 a.m.. The women told police that they were walking on Tennessee Street between 14th & 11th Streets when a gray or silver 4-door passenger car pulled along side of them. Two black males allegedly assaulted the women and then drove off. Lawrence Police were contacted to handle the investigation into the incident. The women did not report any injuries.

This morning’s storms that passed through Douglas County were the source of numerous alarms throughout Lawrence. The fire department checked on at least three alarms along Vermont Street within a five minute time-span. Police also responded on several alarms, including one “vibration alarm” on an area ATM.

Kanwaka Township Fire was called out on a lightning strike investigation and possible structure fire at 6:15 a.m.. The call was at a residence in the 1700 block of E 800 Road, just southwest of the K-10 and I-70 interchange. The caller believed the home was struck by lightning and they could smell a burning odor inside. Fire crews arrived on scene and determined that there was not a fire. No injuries or damage were reported.

As of 7:30 a.m., Westar Energy was showing 38 customers without power. That number has dropped slightly, down to 36, as of 8 a.m..
