May 20th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Police in Lawrence conducted six vehicle stops this morning, two resulting in OUI related arrests. The Sheriff’s Office also recorded one DWI related arrest.

An attempted vehicle stop, shortly after 5:30 a.m., resulted in a brief vehicle pursuit. Due to an equipment issue on my end, it was unclear if Officers were able to catch up with and stop that vehicle or not. As of this report, no one has been booked into jail in connection to the incident.

Officers responded on two non-injury accidents this morning. The first was reported in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street at 2:09 a.m.. The second was reported about an hour later in the 400 block of W 12th Street.

Outside of Lawrence, Baldwin City Fire was called to investigate a fire alarm at the Lumberyard Arts Center, located at 718 High Street. The fire alarm investigation was initially dispatched just before 4:15 a.m.. A County Deputy was nearby and responded as well. That Deputy reported that fire was visible from the rear of the building. Dispatchers upgraded the call for Baldwin City Fire and several Township Fire Departments. Those crews arrived on scene and reported that the fire was on the north end of the building. Crews reported that the fire was contained to the rear “unfinished” portion of the building. No injuries were reported. More on this story can be found here from the Lawrence Journal-World.
