June 15th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Lawrence Police and Fire/Medical were called to the intersection of E 19th Street and Barker Avenue just before 2:10 a.m. on a report of an injury accident involving a motorcycle. Officers arrived quickly and reported possibly critical injuries. Medics arrived a short time later and advised that the injuries were serious. Crews did request the availability of a helicopter, both LifeStar, LifeNet and LifeFlight Eagle declined the flight due to weather in the Lawrence area. The injured person, reported to be a male in his mid-20’s, was transported to LMH. Medics reported a 4-5 inch “gash” on the man’s lower leg, Police also reported that the leg was possibly fractured. Officers later reported that the man’s leg was not broken. Police continue to investigate the accident and what, if any, role alcohol played in it’s cause.

Police were called to investigate a battery in the 800 block of Ohio Street at 2:14 a.m.. Officers caught up with and arrested two men who were reported to be the suspects in the incident. Both men were booked into the County Jail where they face battery charges. Police requested for medics to respond to the scene non-emergency to treat the victim, injuries were not said to be life threatening.

Just a few minutes later, an officer reported a disturbance in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street. That officer was able to handle the incident quickly and sent everyone their separate ways without the assistance of any other officers.

Officers in Lawrence handled a total of three disturbances between 2-3 a.m..

At least three officers responded on a report of criminal damage to property in the 1700 block of W 6th Street, around 5 a.m.. Officers arrived and were able to arrest the suspect.

At 6:15 a.m., Police were called to investigate a trespassing complaint at a Hotel in the 700 block of Iowa Street. While investigating the complaint, an officer reported finding a fire between floors on a staircase. The officer was able to use his fire extinguisher and knocked the fire down. Fire/Medical responded a full alarm response and confirmed that the fire was out. An Investigator was not requested to the scene. As of this report, no arrests have been reported related to the original trespassing complaint.
