June 1st Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Plenty of activity this morning in Lawrence.

Police conducted 13 vehicle stops, with two resulting in OUI arrests.

Officers also responded on four disturbances, three of which were reported to be domestic related. Two of the domestic disturbances resulted in arrests being made. One of those arrests includes multiple charges including; Aggravated Burglary, Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness/Victim, Kidnapping, and Domestic Battery.

At 4:32 a.m., Lawrence Police were received a 911 call from a female reporting that two men, one armed with a gun, attempted to force her into a nearby motel room. The woman reported that she was able to get away from the men and call for help. When Police arrived at the location of where the incident reportedly occurred, they found the two men the caller had described. Other officers attempted to contact the reporting party who apparently left the area. As officers were unable to contact the victim in the case, most officers cleared from the call.

While investigating the call involving the men attempting to force a woman into a motel room, Police discovered that they were in contact with a man who has warrants for his arrest. Dispatchers were able to confirm the warrants, which were from two Kansas counties, and the man was arrested. He has been booked into the Douglas County Jail to await extradition on those warrants.

Just before 7 a.m., Police and Fire crews were called to an address in the 1200 block of W 20th Terrace after a report of a Molotov cocktail was thrown and damaged a vehicle. The fire was extinguished before Police or Firefighters arrived. A fire investigator remains at the scene with Police this morning. There was no information on a suspect available as of this report.

Also new this morning, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was discovered Thursday, in a rural area east of Lawrence. No other information was immediately available. More on this investigation can be found here from the Lawrence Journal-World.
