Police in Lawrence were kept pretty active for most of the morning.

A KUPD Officer was involved in a brief vehicle pursuit of an intoxicated driver at 2:10 a.m.. The chase started around W 19th Street and Naismith. The Officer reported witnessing the driver strike the curb at least three times. Speeds reached just shy of 50 miles per hour while southbound on Naismith Drive. The driver was quickly taken into custody after pulling into a parking spot in an apartment complex near W 24th Street and Ousdahl Road.

Officers responded on at least six noise complaints, four disturbances, and two non injury accidents. One of the accidents occurred in the 100 block of Indian Avenue at 4:11 a.m.. The driver fled the scene on foot and Officers caught up with that subject about an hour later in the same general area.

Just after 5 a.m., the National Weather Service in Topeka included Douglas County in a Special Weather Statement for elevated fire danger today. More on this can be found here from the National Weather Service.
