February 15th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Police in Lawrence were kept pretty busy this morning with numerous disturbance calls. Officers responded on at least five, between midnight and 6 a.m.. None of these were said to have involved any serious injuries.

One of these disturbances occurred in the Emergency Room at LMH. Just before 1 a.m., a Deputy’s radio transmitted what sounded like a struggle with one person heard groaning in the background. When Emergency Dispatchers attempted to contact that Deputy by radio, he did not immediately answer. Several LPD Officers were immediately dispatched to respond and check on the Deputy. While those officers were en route, Dispatchers were able to make contact with the Deputy by phone, he reported that the situation was stable at that time. The man that was struggling with the Deputy was arrested.

Officers were called back out to LMH again just before 3 a.m. for a trespassing complaint. It sounded as though the subject was refusing to leave. It was not clear whether the person had been a patient and discharged or simply someone loitering around the building.

At 5:27 a.m., Lawrence Police were called to investigate a two car non-injury accident in near the intersection of 6th and Lawrence Avenue. Police arrived and found that one of the drivers was pinned in a vehicle. Officers requested a response from LDCFM to extricate the subject. Fire crews arrived and reported heavy damage to the vehicles. Medics also reported 2 minor injuries, neither of which were transported from the scene by Medics.
