August 10th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

An active morning for Lawrence Police conducting vehicle stops. A total of 12 stops conducted this morning, two resulting in OUI related arrests. The first of the arrests came after the driver was involved in a hit and run accident in the 1400 block of Crestline Drive. Officers caught up with the fleeing driver in the 1900 block of 23rd Street. That driver has been booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges including Failure to Report an Accident, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and No Insurance.

Officers also investigated a second non-injury accident in the 2500 block of Morningside Drive at 4:40 a.m..

Shortly before 8 a.m., Police were called to an area construction site, after a report of an overnight burglary to a construction trailer. The caller reported someone had forced entry and stolen copper wiring from the work site.

Officers and Animal Control are investigating an incident of possible animal cruelty in the 2600 block of Moundview Drive. A caller reported a subject yelling at a dog and then striking the dog three times. When the caller told the man to stop, he turned and cursed at the witness. Police and Animal Control are currently on scene as of this report.

Douglas County Deputies are also currently investigating an auto burglary that occurred sometime overnight. The caller reported finding their vehicle burglarized and a firearm stolen from inside. No other information is available as of this report.

None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.
