Lawrence Police responded on a reported car vs pedestrian accident at 9th and Massachusetts Streets just before 2 a.m.. Police reported minor injuries, LDCFM did not transport anyone from that scene. The vehicle that struck the person was said to have fled from the scene. Officers quickly located that vehicle in the 100 block of W 10th Street. Douglas County booking logs show that an OUI (Operating Under the Influence) arrest was made in the same area, around the same time. It was not immediately clear whether the arrest was related to the accident.
At 2:32 a.m., LDCFM was called to investigate a possible vehicle fire in the 900 block of Massachusetts. As one fire crew was responding, a second caller reported that the vehicle was not on fire but, something under it was. Fire crews arrived on scene and reported "nothing visible." Crews did not report extinguishing a fire and no injuries or damage were reported.
Police conducted five vehicle stops, responded on three disturbances, and four noise complaints.
This morning, Lawrence Fire units also were standing by on the scene of a previous fire in the 2200 block of Silicon Avenue. That call was dispatched around 12:15 a.m., so it was outside of my normal reporting hours and I do not have any further information on this fire.
The Storm Prediction Center is still predicting potentially life threatening weather to develop across parts of Kansas this afternoon. The Douglas County area is within this area. More about today's approaching weather can be found here from Operation 100 News.
