September 11th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

A little bit quieter night last night for Lawrence Police overnight.

Police were still called to handle two non injury accidents, both were hit and runs. It did not sound as though either of the suspect vehicle were immediately located. Witnesses were able to report license plate numbers and vehicle descriptions to Police.

LPD responded on several citizen requests to direct traffic throughout the city. A few of those were things that Police could do nothing about, one caller was concerned that motorists would not see a stop sign due to the fog in the area.

County Deputies made a vehicle stop near The Outhouse on N 1500 Road around 3 a.m. One of the subjects in the vehicle was uncooperative with the Deputy who had made the vehicle stop. That deputy called for assistance, several other Deputies arrived quickly and were able to get the subject under control. It was unclear why the subject chose to be combative on the stop.

As earlier reported on the Operation 100 News twitter page and on an earlier version of this blog, at 6:10 this morning LDCFM was called to a reported structure fire in the 1300 block of Tennessee Street. LPD arrived first and reported that the structure was heavily involved with fire. LDCFM arrived shortly there after and with LPD confirmed that all of the occupants were out of the structure. A second alarm was ordered to respond about 10 minutes later. Shortly after the second alarm units began to arrive on the scene, all units were evacuated to the structure, due to rapidly spreading fire on the third floor and in the attic. Crews resorted to a defensive attack for a period of time. One of the residents was treated on scene by a Medic unit, no serious injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
