October 22nd Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Lawrence Police made good on their promise to begin enforcing overnight campers who are violating the city’s posted park usage hours. Shortly before 2 a.m. between 12 and 15 LPD Officers arrived at the park. A witness tells me, by phone, that the Officers arrived in several Police vehicles including a Police van. That witness also told me that Officers announced their intention to write citations to violators and did give campers the chance to leave the park before citations were written. This morning, the LJWorld is reporting that at least eight members of the group received citations. LJWorld Story can be found here.

The rest of the overnight was fairly average early Saturday morning activity. Lots of noise complaints, vehicle stops, disturbances, alcohol violations and Field Sobriety Checks.

Officers also responded on a report of gunshots heard in the 400 block of Pleasant Street just before 2:20a.m.. Four officers responded on that report and were unable to locate anything in that area.

None of the overnight activity, that I heard, resulted in any serious injuries or involved the use of weapons.

Today’s game at Memorial Stadium brings with it extra Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers to assist with traffic. Those Troopers will also be conducting what the Highway Patrol calls a RAVE Saturation Patrol. Find out more about these extra patrols here.
