Power outage in part of Lawrence this morning.

As of 6 a.m. Lawrence Fire Department’s Station 1 at 746 Kentucky Street reported a power outage at their station. Westar has been contacted and states that they are aware of a “large outage in the area”. The sudden loss of power resulted in two alarms sounding up and down Massachusetts Street. Police and Fire are on scene at the alarms and believe all to be related to the outage. Police are also reporting several traffic signals and street lights that are out.

Westar’s Website is showing 5,286 customers without power in Douglas County as of 6:20 a.m. Westar Energy Outage map for Douglas County.

Westar was not able to advise emergency dispatchers of an expected length of the outage but did state that they have crews on the way to work at restoring power.

The night in Lawrence started off with a fireworks complaint in the 4600 block of Trail Drive. The caller advised that he heard an explosion. An officer on routine patrols in the area advised that he also heard the noise and it was related to fireworks.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Police along with Lawrence Fire/Medical responded to the 1400 block of Iowa street on an injury accident. No serious injuries were reported, one person was transported by ambulance.

The majority of the night was consumed by the usual calls, noise complaints, disturbances and traffic stops.
