Lawrence Police responded to the 1900 block of W 26th Street last night. Just after 11 p.m. Police received several calls reporting the sound of gunshots in the area. It was unclear if any suspects were apprehended, police did write a report on the incident.

LPD performed several car stops, with at least two resulting in DUI arrests. A subject with an outstanding warrant was also apprehended.

Police responded on several fights and disturbances. No serious injuries were reported with any of these. There were also three accidents overnight, two involved no injuries and the third involved only minor injuries. The subject involved in the minor injury accident, refused transport by ambulance.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Lawrence Fire responded on a dumpster fire in the 1000 block of Emery Road. The fire was quickly extinguished. The fire was contained to the dumpster and no structures were in jeopardy.

3:30 a.m. LPD was called to the 2500 block of Moundview Drive for what was initially reported as a theft. After officers arrived and spoke with the victim, it became clear that the incident was a strong armed robbery. It was unclear what the suspect was able to get away with and no suspect information was available. A strong armed robbery is a robbery that involves basically overpowering the victim without the use of a weapon. The charge is commonly used for purse snatchings.
