June 28th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Around 11:15 p.m. KUPD was called to Summerfield Hall in the 1300 block of Sunnyside Avenue on campus. The caller reported a man on the property who was refusing to leave. Several officers arrived and again, the man was asked to leave. The officers stated that the man appeared to be a transient and was uncooperative with officers. The next radio traffic was an officer yelling for LPD to respond to assist and that the man was now fighting with KUPD.

The scuffle lasted a good three minutes before KUPD advised that their situation was under control. KUPD requested Fire/Medical to respond after mace was used and was causing issues for the suspect and two officers. Lawrence Police arrived just as the man was being taken into custody by KUPD. LPD transported the suspect to the hospital to be checked out and both of the KUPD officers were treated on scene. After being cleared at LMH, the suspect was transferred to the Douglas County Jail.

Lawrence Police responded on several minor disturbances, a noise complaint and conducted several vehicle stops. None of the activity overnight involved the use of weapons or resulted in any serious injuries.
