Lawrence Police and LDCFM responded on a report of a possible structure fire in the 700 block of Iowa Street at the Days Inn, at 2:40 this morning. The caller reported a fire in a room and mentioned something about chemicals before hanging up on Emergency Dispatchers. Police arrived first and reported that nothing was showing from the building. Fire crews weren't far behind and reported the same findings. Crews gained access to the room of the reported fire and found it to be vacant, surrounding rooms were also checked with nothing found. After several attempts, dispatchers were never able to regain telephone contact with the initial, and only caller.

Just after 3:30, Lawrence Police were called out to the 900 block of Massachusetts Street on a reported stabbing. Details on this one were hard to come by, not a whole lot of information was given, that I could hear. I did not hear any serious injuries reported nor did I hear Police request a case number for the incident. At least seven Officers responded on the call.

Police also received at least three reports of firearms complaints. Most were shots fired calls and many of those ended up being nothing more than fireworks.

Lawrence Police also conducted several vehicle stops and responded on a noise complaint.

Sadly, over the past few weeks there has been a spike in suicide attempts throughout my listening area. As this is one of the scanner calls that is never easy to hear. I urge anyone struggling with depression to talk to someone. Here is a message from Kansas City's Fox 4, WDAF, on the loss of their friend, morning Meteorologist Don Harman and Don's struggle with depression. LINK to story and video. As always, let's remember to keep any comments appropriate.
