August 23rd Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up
Another fairly quiet night in Douglas County.
Lawrence Police responded on a few noise complaints and disturbances, pretty routine stuff that happens on most nights.
Shortly after midnight, Lawrence Police were called to the 3300 block of Iowa on a non injury accident.
The only truly odd or out of the ordinary call from overnight involved a man on the railroad tracks just east of E 8th and Pennsylvania Street. The man climbed onto a stopped train and then refused to get off of the train, after being spotted by a member of the train’s crew. The crew called for Lawrence Police to respond and remove the man for trespassing. Four LPD officers arrived and the man was removed from the train. It was unclear if he was arrested or simply cited for trespassing.
A few minutes before 1:30 a.m. LDCFM along with LPD were called to the 1800 block of Carmel Drive. The caller advised that he awoke to his smoke detectors in his home sounding. He went to investigate and found that his house had become filled with smoke. Further investigation, by the resident, led him to the garage where he found a small fire, which he extinguished with his garden hose. LDCFM arrived and confirmed that the fire was contained to the garage and was extinguished. Fire crews also assisted the man in ventilating the smoke from his residence.
In case you have not already seen the article, The Journal World’s Shaun Hittle recently interviewed me about my work monitoring my scanners. The article can be seen here. Also, I would like to add that Operation 100 News and myself are NOT affiliated, in any way, with any of the other people interviewed or the Twitter username’s mentioned in the article.
The activity blogged here is only a sampling of some of the things that Douglas County Law Enforcement and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical respond on. To see a complete list of Lawrence Police activity, the department has that available on their website along with several easy to use maps that show approximate locations for Police activity.
