August 18th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Lawrence Police were busy from the start last night.

At 10:30 p.m. emergency dispatchers received at least four calls from people advising that they had heard between five and seven gunshots in the area of the 900 block of E 21st Terrace. Police responded to that area to check. Just as officers were arriving on E 21st Terrace, dispatchers were receiving calls from the 200 block of Pinecone Drive advising of fireworks in the area. Police searched both areas, as they are not very far apart. No one was located in relation to any of the complaints.

Just before 11 p.m. Lawrence Police responded to investigate a non injury accident in the 500 block of Arkansas Street. KU Public Safety also responded on at least two non injury accidents on campus.

Around 12:45 a.m. Lawrence Police along with Lawrence Fire/Medical were called to the 1600 block of Haskell on reports of a kitchen fire inside of an apartment. The subject that called 911 advised that the fire was believed to have been fully extinguished by using a fire extinguisher. Police arrived and confirmed that the fire appeared to be out but, there was significant smoke inside the apartment. Fire crews arrived and provided ventilation to the apartment. It sounded like one person was transported to LMH by Lawrence Police with a minor injury.

Lawrence Police also arrested at least two people for suspicion of driving under the influence. Several noise complaints, vehicle stops and disturbances were also handled by Lawrence Police overnight.
