Russell Field Airport on Wednesday for the arrival of the body of a 19-year-old Dadeville resident killed in Iraq. Pfc. James Jacob “Spanky” Harrelson died July 17 in Baghdad from wounds he received when his Humvee was hit by a roadside bomb. He had been serving in Iraq since May. Harrelson was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, from Fort Riley, Kan. An honors team from Fort Benning, Ga., was on hand at the airport to move the casket from the plane.Kansas National Guard www.saljournal.com/Story/airport72507 (Salina Journal) Airport authority gets big raise for building lease: The Salina Airport Authority board renewed a lease with the Kansas National Guard Wednesday for a building that has been used by the Guard since the late 1970s. But the authority has gotten a big raise on the lease rate, from a dollar a year to $9,600 a year. If that dollar-a-year rate sounds low, consider that the guard took over an old Schilling Air Force base building and over the years has remodeled and upgraded the building at no expense to the airport authority, said Tim Rogers, airport authority executive director. In the new, 10-year lease, subject to rate adjustments every two years, the guard will continue to maintain the building, which is used for office and classroom space. The guard also leased a tract of airport authority land that will be used for equipment storage, for $355 a month, or $4,260 a year. The total lease for the building and land is for $13,860 a year.
