Warmth to Continue

Temperatures the last few days have been well-above average for this time of year. The quick transition late last week from rainy 60s to the humid upper 80s made the arrival of this warm spell quite startling. For those who like summer weather, the good news is that it’ll stick around for a while. The weather pattern across the globe is aligned in a way that should keep warm (normal to above average) temperatures over us through the forecast horizon.

Despite the threat of afternoon storms for a few of the days this week, it likely won’t prevent the temperatures from reaching the 80s, which for the last week of May is about 5 degrees above average. And though 80s in May is hardly unusual, it certainly is a nice break from the 16-day stretch of rainy and very cool weather we experienced earlier this month.

Beyond this week, the first half of the Memorial Day weekend is looking great weatherwise, with lots of sun and highs in the 80s. From late Sunday into Monday, chances for storms increases a bit, but an all-day rain event is unlikely.

So when does the real heat come? 90s for us is a real possibility the following weekend, as we begin to tap the eastern edge of a hot airmass scheduled to develop over the Rockies.
