The snowy winter brings a national weather milestone

This is one of those variables that no one actually tracks and keeps records for, but so far no one has been able to come up with another example of a time when all of the continental 48 states and Alaska all have snow on the ground. We can just go with the idea that might be an unofficial record and certainly some very unusual to say the least.

Hawaii is the lone hold-out on the snow cover, but typically in the winter some of their tallest volcanoes are dusted with snow. No Hawaiian snow is in the forecast and the Florida snowcover is not going to last long, so it’s highly unlikely that we’ll get a perfect 50, so we’ll stop at a very impressive 49.
