Record cold and a surplus of rain for Lawrence
It has been a rough few days for those of us who are hanging on to that last hope for warm weather. Since Saturday we have set records on four the last five days for the lowest high temperature. The previous highs and new records look like this:
October 10th record: 44° in 1985 is now 40° for 2009
October 11th record: 54° in 1946 is now 43° for 2009
October 13th record: 48° in 1986 is now 45° for 2009
October 14th record: 55° in 1969 is now 47° for 2009
The good news for us is that warmer air is on the way for the weekend and into the beginning of next week. The trend is for warmer air to push back this direction by Sunday from the southwestern side of the U.S. and looks to keep our temperatures close the 70° mark.
Another interesting fact for Lawrence comes from our rain bucket. Since yesterday we picked up another 0.28″ of rain which puts us above the 39.92″ average for the year. So far this year – including the rainfall from Tuesday – puts our total for the year up to 40.05″. That means that any additional rain or snow that we pick up this year will be a surplus. It will be interesting to see where we end up.
