Are you a paraskevidekatriaphobe

Weather Watch ...from the A.M.

Normally Fridays are a great day; it is the end of the workweek and the weekend is right around the corner. If you are a paraskevidekatriaphobe, there are a few Fridays you may not enjoy, and today happens to be one of them, Friday the 13th.

Some people have a fear of Friday the 13th, those known as paraskevidekatriaphobes, while others find the day to be lucky. Here are a couple of fun facts about Friday the 13th and here are another 13 facts about the day.

Since it is Friday the 13th and this is the Weather Watch Blog, I thought it would be interesting to see how many weather events I could find that fell on this day. I’ve included a few below, with links for more information.

Buffalo, N.Y. saw at least 30 inches of snow in October 2006 on Friday the 13th from the Friday the 13th Storm.

Stillwater, Okla. saw a lot of damage in June 1975 when a tornado (F3) touched down on Friday the 13th.

In August 2004, Hurricane Charlie made landfall in Florida as a major hurricane on Friday the 13th.

Do you think that Friday the 13th is a lucky or unlucky day? I have always been impartial to the day, although my first day on-air for KTKA 49 ABC News happened to fall on March 13, 2009, Friday the 13th. I have to say, I was nervous enough about my first day on-air in Kansas, and knowing it was Friday the 13th did not make it any easier! Luckily, once I was on-air, all of the butterflies left my stomach and everything was fine!
