When will we get our first snow?
The record for the earliest snowfall in Topeka was set on October 9, 1970. Up to this point, we haven't received our first snow, so we won't break any records. (There have been reports of a few snowflakes mixing in with rain for areas around Junction City, however nothing confirmed or notable has occurred yet this season.)
Here are the dates for the first snowfall in Topeka over the past five years:
November 29, 2008
November 21, 2007
December 31, 2006
November 15, 2005
November 23, 2004
Knowing the record and trend over the past five years, I thought it would be interesting for people to guess when they think we will see snowfall the first time this year. Pick your date and post it in the comments below, or on our 49 Storm Team Weather Facebook Page. Once we receive our first snow, we'll check back to see who was the closest.

Well, this coming storm is still five days away, so Tom might be right. I'm going to stick with the average first snowfall which I believe is December 4th.

Meant to sat 'what there are of them', sorry.
BTW, I'm waiting for Jackripper to give us his all-knowing input on this. After dozens of posts on such things as KU football and *coupons*, well, sheeit, what do I know about this?
I'll say this: the first snowflakes will land on my ass (or thereabout) long before they do 95% of the posters hereabout.

Issued by The National Weather Service
Topeka, KS
3:01 pm CST, Sat., Nov. 14, 2009
… snow possible sunday night and monday…
an upper level storms system is forecast to move across northern oklahoma and southern kansas during the day monday which is slightly faster than previous forecasts. this faster movement could allow colder air to move into central and eventually eastern kansas through the day monday and change rain over to snow. there is still some uncertainty with how much cold air will move into the area and when precipitation may change over to snow. therefore it is difficult to project any specifics with regards to snow amounts.
if snow does occur… it will most likely start across north central kansas sunday night and then spread east into northeast and possibly east central kansas during the day monday.
due to the uncertainty in the forecast… persons in north central… northeast and east central kansas should pay close attention to the forecast during the day sunday and prepare for wintry conditions on sunday night and throughout the day monday.
