Weekend rain may put a damper on some holiday plans

After a week of relatively calm weather, we’re starting to introduce chances of rain just in time for Memorial Day weekend. A storm system that has been lingering over Florida and the Gulf of Mexico will finally wander its way into the Great Plains. Although this storm has produced torrential rains over Florida over the last several days, our chances of extended heavy rain are not as good.

This strong low pressure system will slowly work its way toward the northwest into Kansas bringing with it humidity and shower potential, but will weaken on its way. That means that our chances of showers and thunderstorms begin on Saturday night and continue into Monday and Tuesday.

You don’t need to cancel your outdoor plans for your Memorial Day Weekend just yet. Most of these showers will be of the garden variety thunderstorms, leaving our severe weather threat relatively low. The good news for those of you planning outdoor activities is that these storms will be scattered and unorganized. By mid-week, the low pressure system will move out as another fair weather pattern settles in place over the Midwest.
