The Worst Is Over – For Now

There was nothing subtle about the swing in temperatures last week. We knew that things were going to change, and change they did. The weekend itself was a bitter reminder of how quickly we can see things change in the heart of winter.Overall, we have been pretty luck so far with the type of weather that has moved through this winter with very few extreme ice and snow events. Even what we picked up Sunday and Monday ended up being an annoyance to most drivers rather than the challenge we can run into this time of year. Here is the good news. The sun is going to make it’s debut on Wednesday and leave us with milder temperatures as we head to the weekend. Expect plenty of sunshine on Wednesday with temperatures working their way into the 30’s. We have another weak cold front swinging through on Thursday which will bring us more of a wind-shift than anything. Our chances of having any snow or ice from this particular system is minimal, although I don’t want to rule out completely the chance of some minor precipitation (mainly flurries) off and on for Thursday. After that, we are on our way to a much warmer weekend with temperatures jumping into the 40’s with 50 degree temperatures trying to work their way back toward northeast Kansas this weekend. I don’t expect to hit the 50 degree mark, but just the possibility can bring a smile to many people’s faces when we are dealing with the dead of winter.
