Lower 90s seem hot this summer

After a heatwave in June, then a July that felt more like May, we find ourselves in the middle of one of the most beautiful Augusts in memory. However, it is still summer and every now and then the south breeze will blow some heat and humidity our way.

I found myself mulling over the computer projections and figuring out the overall pattern for the week and realized, we’ve got a couple hot days for the first part of this week.

I started thinking through all of the yardwork that needed to be done, trying to figure out if I can avoid having to mow in the hot weather, etc. Then I realized. It’s only going to be in the lower 90s and this is August. Normally, I’d wait for a day in the lower 90s to do my yardwork! What a summer. I am in no way complaining. If more summers were like this and word got out, we’d probably have a population boom with everyone moving our way.

I guess perspective is everything. And since I’ve been asked many times whether or not we’ll pay for this cooler summer when winter rolls around, I’ll answer it with this: El Nino has been building back in. That USUALLY means a bit warmer and wetter conditions (still could be snowy, but overall warmer). However, take note that La Nina like we had the two winters are “supposed” to be dry and the winter before last was the wettest on record.

So take long-term forecasting for what it’s worth!
