Fall-Like Temperatures

The temperatures over the last week or so have been among the best that we have had this year. The average high for the first day of autumn is 79 degrees with the average low around 57 degrees. Today’s high temperature is expected to be 4 degrees above the average with the high of 83 degrees.This is the type of weather that many of us have been asking for.That had me wondering how this year stacks up to the last several. I looked at our records and came up with these numbers for the first day of fall over the past few years.Year High Low 2003 82 42 2004 85 57 2005 87 67 2006 69 56 2007 82 64With the exception of 2006, we have been above average with our daytime high temperatures over the past five years and this year is falling right in line with all the rest. The Climate Prediction Center gives a number of long-range forecasts you might find useful. The three month outlook starting in October has our temperature outlook slightly above average for the fall this year. ! This particular forecast does not forecast any areas in the continental United States to be _below_ average. Although there are indications that we will have temperatures above average for the fall, there are many people in the meteorological world that are batting around the possibility of an early fall setting up across the western U.S. and middle and upper plains.
