Rain Rain Go Away

With all of the rainy days that we have had this September, it is starting to feel like we should begin counting animals two-by-two. Looking back through the monthly weather chart that we keep at the station, there has only been one day that no precipitation has occurred. That day of course was Labor Day, the first day of the month. The following day was sunny for part of the day, however we did record nearly an inch of rain in that 24-hour period.Since then, the weather pattern hasn’t really let up. The total rainfall for the month is well above the average for month to date. When telling a coworker earlier that this weather pattern was likely to stick around throughout the weekend, I was met with a surprising “Good, this is the kind of weather that I like.”From a meteorologists perspective, this is usually the type of weather we like as well. Although I personally enjoy getting to spend time outdoors when the weather is dry and comfortable, there is little excitement in forecasting dry conditions and unchanging temperatures. What makes this month different, however, is that the unseasonably cool and wet weather we have been seeing now feels like the norm and is making forecasting seem bland. For me, the return of the typical conditions will be welcomed for bringing some interest back to the weather center. If you like this weather pattern, well you have gotten almost half of a month straight of weather that you enjoy and you really can’t complain about that.So what do you think? Are you ready for the return of some sunshine, or is this the type of weather that you enjoy? Does the official start of fall next weekend make you want to hold on to the summer, or get out the winter clothes?
