Close Call for Douglas Co.

Wow, things got busy quickly Thursday night in the 6Weather office. Four surrounding counties had tornado warnings last night — Osage, Shawnee, Leavenworth and Johnson. Tornadoes were reported on the ground in Shawnee and Leavenworth counties. Luckily no warnings for Douglas, although we did have a wall cloud pass over northwest Douglas county, very visible from Lawrence. It was a great lightning show and the storms did drop 1.17 inches of rain at the Lawrence Municipal airport, although local amounts may have been higher. The highest local report I’ve had sent into the office was slightly over 2 inches; about 3 miles south of Lawrence.
