Scenic Sky Event For New Year’s Eve

This is for all of you star-gazers out there! Barring an all-out invasion of clouds on New Year’s Eve (partial cloud cover is expected) you may be able to view 3 planets and a thin sliver of the crescent moon on the same evening! Venus and the moon can be found together high in the southwestern sky after the sun drops below the horizon. These two objects will be the brightest natural objects that you see in our sky that evening! While the moon and Venus will be easy to see, there is another conjunction of celestial objects that might pose more of a problem to view. Right after sunset, you should be able to see Mercury and Jupiter next to the horizon in the west! This is not going to be the easiest to find since the sun will still be shining fairly brightly and will dim your view of these two planets.Happy viewing!
