Little Sioux Camp Tornado Picture?

I’ve gotten several emails over the last 2 months about this picture:!It’s also been a big topic among meteorologists. Is the picture real? Where was it taken? Is it a tornado? Fact: It is NOT the Little Sioux tornado. This picture was taken in Iowa the same night as the Little Sioux tornado, but it was taken in northeast Iowa. Nowhere near the camp grounds. The picture is believed to be real (and not enhanced in Photoshop). But the picture is NOT believed to be a tornado. The picture seems to show a very distinct supercell, but the “tornado-like” structure is not believed to be a tornado. It could be a wall cloud, which is a lowering of clouds that is sometimes a precursor to a tornado or it could be a shelf cloud. A shelf cloud is a low, distinct, leading edge cloud associated with a thunderstorm’s outflow.
