'Fandom' on the Internet

¢ Nancy Baym, a KU professor of communication studies, talks about how fans of TV shows and other pop culture icons organize on the Internet in a story by [Cox News Service][1] Baym also tends the Web site www.onlinefandom.com."Fans are becoming more and more participatory in social groups that are built around doing their own things with pop culture materials," Baym said. "That trend is sweeping fandom and is largely motivated by the Internet."¢ A former KU professor who wrote a pair of definitive books on Lawrence history will be inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, the [(Bartlesville) Examiner-Enterprise][2] reports. David Dary now is head of the journalism program at the University of Oklahoma, but he also wrote "Pictorial History of Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas" and "Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas, an Informal History."
