Hemenway, professor support new University of Iowa president

KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway and biology profesor Jim Orr were among those praising Sally Mason in articles today. Mason, a former KU dean, is expected to be announced as president of the University of Iowa today, according to the [Des Moines Register][1].University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway said he was thrilled and not surprised to hear that Mason will lead the U of I."I believe she will adapt really well to the major medical mission at Iowa," he said. "She's a biologist and will bring in intellectual training and perspective to the medical mission."Jim Orr, professor of molecular biosciences at the University of Kansas, worked as an academic colleague with Mason in Lawrence. Orr remembers what she always kept in focus._"There are a lot of issues to consider when you're in administrative positions," he said. "There are financial considerations, faculty considerations and alumni.
