Hemenway, professor support new University of Iowa president

KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway and biology profesor Jim Orr were among those praising Sally Mason in articles today. Mason, a former KU dean, is expected to be announced as president of the University of Iowa today, according to the Des Moines Register._University of Kansas Chancellor Robert Hemenway said he was thrilled and not surprised to hear that Mason will lead the U of I.__”I believe she will adapt really well to the major medical mission at Iowa,” he said. “She’s a biologist and will bring in intellectual training and perspective to the medical mission.”__Jim Orr, professor of molecular biosciences at the University of Kansas, worked as an academic colleague with Mason in Lawrence. Orr remembers what she always kept in focus.__”There are a lot of issues to consider when you’re in administrative positions,” he said. “There are financial considerations, faculty considerations and alumni. I always remember that the student interest and opportunities and education for students was always a high priority for her.”_
