Eugene officials suprised by manager’s interest in Lawrence

¢ The newspaper in Eugene, Ore., is reporting about its city manager being a finalist for the Lawrence city manager post. Eugene’s mayor was surprised to learn Dennis Taylor was a finalist for the job, according to the Eugene Register-Guard._ “No kidding!” Mayor Kitty Piercy said Sunday evening when informed of Taylor’s candidacy. “It’s total news to me. I was unaware that he was applying anywhere else for employment.”_¢ Sam Farha, a KU graduate and professional poker player who has a part in the new movie “Lucky You,” is featured today in the Houston Chronicle._”Doing the movie was really a lot of fun. Actually, I felt like I was watching a movie instead of acting in one,” Farha said.__”In one scene I’m playing poker, naturally, and Robert Duvall is sitting next to me at the table. It was really an exciting experience to work with him. … The thing that surprised me, and the one thing I didn’t like so much, was all the time it took._¢ Tim Jordan, a former Lawrence resident and KU student, is making a name for himself by performing on typewriters, the St. Louis Dispatch reports._”When I’m playing the typewriter, that’s performance art for me. It is an extension of my highly expressive self, and of my need for attention.”_¢ A Kansas University official is quoted in this story in the UNLV Rebel Yell regarding diversity among the medical profession._ “I definitely think diversity needs to be increased, so that we can have practitioners that mirror the general population,” said Ashley Devilbiss, associate director of the Health Careers Pathways Program at the University of Kansas._
