Washington Post likes local band

¢ Lawrence rockers [White Whale][1] got a positive live review in the [Washington Post][2] today.Live, the band attempted to reproduce the album's eclectic sweep and nautical spirit, using a megaphone to transform (Matt) Suggs's vocals into a distant roar and reverb to make his shout resemble a gull-like squawk. These gambits worked, but the sounds they generated weren't essential. More important was translating the songs to the stage from their recorded versions.¢ James Moser, a former KU dean who now is chancelor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is profiled in a story in China's [People's Daily Online][3]. Hey, I was at this White Whale show in DC! It was a great show -- hence the nice writeup -- and even more great to see a Lawrence band getting props in the Washington Post...in fact, they gave the record itself a nice review earlier in the week: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/02/AR2006110200471.html

hooray! White Whale is my new favorite band. They are really surprisingly great!
