KU grad nominated for commodities post

¢ Jill E. Sommers, a Kansas University graduate, will be nominated to be commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the White House announced Monday. Sommers formerly headed U.S. regulatory affairs at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, and was associate director of governmnet affairs at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.¢ A dog trained at the Vom Kaiserhofe Training Center in Lawrence is getting attention for sniffing out mold in Washington. Zena the Belgian Melinois is featured in the Peninsula Daily News_Zena is one of about 20 dogs in the United States certified as having been trained to detect toxic mold.__She is the only one in the state of Washington, so far as her owner knows, and certainly is unique in the Olympic Peninsula._
