Sigmund I couldn't agree with you more. What is the point of moving somewhere if all you want to do is change it. Everytime I meet somebody from New York they always act like us simple folk in Kansas should be impressed that they are from New York. The only thing about them that impresses me is the fact that they had the common sense to move away from New York.

Nothing personal. I am just so tired of people moving to the midwest then constantly bitching about the midwest, carrying on about how much better the coast is, and then perpetuating stereotypes of Kansans. I think those people would be happier (I know I would be happier) if they just stayed put. Afterall, if they like it so much where they are why moving here in the first place?

Just what we need another pretentious preachy self-righteous East Coast liberal coming to the midwest to tell us all how we have it all completely wrong! Hey David, do us and yourself a favor? Stay in NY please. If you must move to Kansas and wish to change a "Red State", please move to western Kansas where your preconceived predjudices will more closely match the reality and your attempt at conversion of the "hay seeds" into sophisticates might have an impact. They might even be impressed with the Amazon ranking of 239,427 for your book, "Get Your War On", which I am sure is quite scholarly.

You see in here in Lawrence we are a "Blue County" and your presence here isn't really needed.

I had dinner with David last fall when he was in town to speak at the Spencer Museum of Art. He really does love Lawrence, and would like eventually to move here or to another Midwest city, but for the time being feels he needs to stay in New York at this point in his career.

The Daivd Rees interview is from October 2004. Does anyone know if he actually made the move to Larryville?
