Over $2,000 in golf equipment reported stolen from vehicle


Law enforcement report Burglaries and thefts reported ¢ A 45-year-old Lawrence man reported a golf bag, clubs and balls were stolen from a vehicle between Aug. 30 and Sunday in the 1300 block of Valley Lane. The estimated loss is $2,520. ¢ A 22-year-old Lawrence man reported two laptop computers, two insulin pens and an iPod were among several items stolen between Aug. 14 and Aug. 15 in the 1000 block of Emery Road. The estimated loss is $2,809.Emergency calls Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical reported these responses: Fire calls ¢ Smoke detector activation, no fire, 8:04 a.m. Tuesday, 1800 Engel Road. ¢ Smoke detector activation due to malfunction, 8:31 a.m. Tuesday, 1800 Engel Road. ¢ Road freight or transport vehicle fire, 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, Kentucky and W. Sixth streets. ¢ Assist person, no obvious injury, 9:08 a.m. Tuesday, 1101 Vt. ¢ Medical transfer, 11 a.m. Tuesday, 325 Maine St. ¢ Power line down, 12:21 p.m. Tuesday, Maine and W. Ninth streets. ¢ Authorized controlled burning, 2:33 p.m. Tuesday, Harper and E. 18th streets. ¢ Outside rubbish, trash or waste fire, 2:48 p.m. Tuesday, 1445 Jayhawk Blvd. ¢ Assist person, no obvious injury, 2:56 p.m. Tuesday, 530 Eldridge St. ¢ Arcing, shorted electrical wiring, 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, 3928 W. 11th Place. ¢ Assist person, no obvious injury, 1:09 a.m. Wednesday, 3306 Yellowstone Drive.

I wonder what $2,500(golf clubs?) could be used for if given to, say, the United Way? Oh - by the way, buying expensive sports gear when one ISN'T a major sports player(as in, career) is just a way of "keeping up with the Johnsons"."Hey Bob! Look at my sweet new gear! According to the ads, I can now hit a ball farther than God!"
