Lansing inmate recaptured after brief escape

LANSING – A Lansing Correctional Facility inmate is back in custody after a brief escape today.!Prison officials said Mark A. Henderson, 50, (left) escaped from the facility’s Vehicle Maintenance Department, where he was assigned to work. Henderson left the prison grounds driving a facility vehicle.A news release from the prison said the escape was confirmed at 11:08 a.m. and at 12:05 p.m., Henderson was apprehended by the Platte County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department.Henderson is serving a 10- to 40-year sentence based on Wyandotte County convictions in 1978 and 1981 for voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.He had been released from prison on parole in September 2000 but was returned as a parole violator in August of 2002. Henderson is currently in custody and is awaiting extradition back to Kansas.
