Bicyclist released from hospital

¢ A Lawrence man hit by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle on U.S. Highway 24-40 last week has been released from the hospital. On July 9, John Phelps, 20, was riding a bicycle east on U.S. 24-40 when he started to turn left onto East 1600 Road in front of a 1990 Ford Ranger pickup. Leroy Walters, 63, Tonganoxie, was driving the truck, which also was headed east.Phelps, who suffered bumps and bruises and a stress fracture, was transported by air ambulance to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was released late last week, according to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper T.L. Berner.No citations have been issued in the incident.Injury accidents¢ At 2:37 a.m. Sunday, two vehicles collided at the intersection of West Ninth and Iowa streets. According to the police accident report, a Honda Civic, driven by Kiara Robinson, 17, hit an Isuzu Trooper sport-utility vehicle driven by Cesar Rodriguez, 22, of Lawrence.Both Robinson and her passenger, Courtney Barber, 17, of Lawrence, were injured and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Robinson was found to have run a red light and was issued citations for red light violation, no insurance and an illegal tag. Barber was treated and released. Citing privacy laws, an LMH hospital official said she could not release Robinson’s condition.
