Police investigate child endangerment

Here are recent crime reports in Lawrence:¢ The District Attorney's office is reviewing a case of possible endangerment of a child after police found two children left in a car last week.According to Lawrence police, a woman shopping in Checkers, 2300 Louisiana St., saw two children alone in a car when she entered and exited the store about 15 minutes apart.Police interviewed the woman and took a report, then located the 41-year-old mother of the children at her home. Police noted at the time that the children appeared to be in good health. The report was then sent to both the district attorney's office and Social and Rehabilitation Services for review.¢ Police responded to reports early Sunday morning of a dog left outside for at least four hours without access to food or shelter. The temperature, police said, was about 7 degrees outside. An animal control officer found the dog on the 3300 block of West Eight Street and located a neighbor, who let the dog inside.Police left a business card for the owner of the dog to make contact.

I think the owner of the dog and the mom need to be smacked with a rolled up newspaper.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to care for animals or children.

Err, how old were the children in the car? Seems like a pretty important fact.

Wait...did the police wait to contact the mom after she left and went home, or had she left her kids in the car at Checkers while she was at home somewhere else? This story is very confusing to me...

I agree Harry_Manback. Were the kids not with the mother at the time or what?

I hope the Checker's judge throws the book at her!

I had to read it twice myself but I think that as the women entered Checker's, she saw 2 kids sitting in a car by themselves. When she came out 15 minutes later, the kids were still sitting in the car by themselves. She probably called the police but by the time they got there, the mother had already returned to her car and left. The police then tracked the mother of the kids down at home .... of course I could be wrong.
